Wadi Al-Aqiq
One of Madinah’s most renowned valleys, Al-Aqiq is connected to the Prophetic biography and was historically lined with gardens and residences. Today, it brings together nature, history and outdoor walking.
Al-Aqiq Valley runs through parts of Madinah and is one of the city’s best-known natural and historic landscapes. Its banks were historically home to gardens, farms and residences, with notable sites such as the Palace of Urwa ibn Al-Zubayr overlooking the valley.
The valley also holds a special connection to the Prophetic biography. A hadith records the Prophet ﷺ being instructed to pray in “this blessed valley,” a description that became closely associated with Al-Aqiq. The valley also passes through the area of Dhul Hulayfah, the miqat for those travelling from Madinah.
Today, sections of Al-Aqiq have been environmentally restored and developed with walking paths, landscaping, lighting and seating areas while preserving the valley’s natural character. The Al-Aqiq walking trail offers visitors a relaxed way to experience another side of Madinah, particularly during the cooler evening hours.

Al-Aqiq is mentioned in an authentic hadith in which the Prophet ﷺ was told: “Pray in this blessed valley and say: ‘Umrah with Hajj.’” The narration is associated with the area of Al-Aqiq and Dhul Hulayfah during the Prophet’s ﷺ journey for Hajj.
For centuries, Al-Aqiq played an important role in Madinah’s landscape, with gardens and residences flourishing along its banks, particularly during the Umayyad and Abbasid periods. Historic remains, inscriptions and landmarks such as the Palace of Urwa ibn Al-Zubayr preserve part of that heritage.
