Mount Uhud
One of Madinah’s most iconic landmarks, Mount Uhud is deeply connected to the Prophetic biography and the Battle of Uhud, and was described by the Prophet ﷺ as a mountain that loves us and that we love.
Mount Uhud rises to the north of Madinah and is one of the city’s most recognizable natural and historical landmarks. It is closely connected to the Prophetic biography, with the Battle of Uhud taking place in the surrounding area in the third year after the Hijrah.
Its significance extends beyond the historical event. The Prophet ﷺ said of Uhud: “Uhud is a mountain that loves us and that we love.” Standing before its distinctive rocky landscape gives visitors a sense of the geography surrounding important events from the Prophetic era in a way that written accounts alone cannot fully convey.
A visit to Mount Uhud can easily be combined with Archers’ Hill and the Uhud battlefield due to their proximity, allowing visitors to experience the wider historical landscape in a single journey.

In an authentic hadith, the Prophet ﷺ said of Mount Uhud: “This is Uhud, a mountain that loves us and that we love,” giving the mountain a special place in Islamic tradition.
The area around Mount Uhud was the setting of the Battle of Uhud in 3 AH / 625 CE, one of the major events of the Prophetic biography, fought between the Muslims of Madinah and Quraysh.
Combine Mount Uhud with Archers’ Hill and the surrounding historical sites in one visit. Early morning or before sunset offers milder weather and a more pleasant view.
