Dhul Hulayfa Miqat Mosque
The designated miqat for the people of Madinah and those passing through it for Hajj or Umrah, located at Dhul Hulayfah where the Prophet ﷺ entered into Ihram.
Southwest of central Madinah stands the Miqat Mosque at Dhul Hulayfah, the place from which Prophet Muhammad ﷺ entered into Ihram for Hajj and Umrah. It remains the designated miqat for the people of Madinah and for travellers passing through the city on their way to Makkah for pilgrimage.
The site is also closely connected to the blessed Al-Aqiq Valley, where the Prophet ﷺ received the instruction to pray in the valley. Today, pilgrims prepare for their journey here, with facilities for washing, changing into Ihram and beginning the Talbiyah before departing towards Makkah.
The present mosque is distinguished by its spacious design, striking spiral minaret, arches and domes. Extensive facilities surrounding it serve Hajj and Umrah travellers, making Dhul Hulayfah both a historic Prophetic site and a living part of the pilgrimage journey today.
From here, pilgrims begin their journey from Madinah towards the Sacred House.
Dhul Hulayfah is the miqat designated by the Prophet ﷺ for the people of Madinah and those travelling along their route for Hajj or Umrah. The Prophet ﷺ himself entered into Ihram from here, and the site is connected to Al-Aqiq, described in the hadith as a blessed valley.
The Prophet ﷺ stopped at Dhul Hulayfah when departing Madinah for Hajj and Umrah. A mosque was later established at the site and renewed over successive periods, with major expansion during the Saudi era transforming it into a large complex equipped to serve pilgrims.
If you are travelling from Madinah to Makkah for Umrah or Hajj, prepare your Ihram essentials beforehand and allow enough time at the miqat for washing, changing, prayer and preparation, particularly during busy pilgrimage periods.
